How One Lemonade Stand Is Fighting Child Hunger
This young changemaker reminds us child hunger isn’t inevitable!
Good people are doing great things every day. They see a need, and step up to meet it. I'm seeing KIDS step up and say, "I want to help!" Yes, challenges are everywhere, but we can choose to see the good. We can choose to do good.
The Squeeze!
This weekend (8/31), Blake's Lemonade is giving away free lemonade here in #SouthernArizona! Even better—every additional lemonade purchased means $1 goes toward paying off school lunch balances for kids who need it most.
I recently heard about a child who asked their parent to pay off their lunch balance so they could eat. The heartbreaking answer? There wasn’t any money to cover it.
In Vail, AZ, about 1 in 3 families are in need. In Patagonia, AZ, it’s closer to 3 in 5. These numbers aren’t small, but small acts can create a huge impact.
This may not be a nonprofit, but when kids step up to spark positive change, it’s absolutely worth celebrating—and sharing—in our newsletter.

Ready to help?
If you want to help make sure kids have enough to eat—at school or at home—here are a few simple ways to start:
Buy a lemonade this weekend and support Blake’s effort to pay off lunch debts.
Call a local school and ask if you can donate toward meals or help clear unpaid balances.
Donate or volunteer at your local food bank to provide meals directly to families. Serving Vail is Resources Food Bank, and serving greater southern Arizona is the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
Or visit Feeding America to explore how you can be part of ending hunger nationwide.
Now that I’ve shared a few ways we can help, here’s your call to action:
Child hunger isn’t inevitable—it’s a community choice. When we have ways to help and choose not to, we let it continue. But when we step up, we choose better for every child.
